I went to see DR Shen for a wisdom tooth that was bothering me and I must say that was one of the most comfortable experience I ever had going to the dentist office. He explained what he was doing and genuinely shows that he cares about his patients. His staff are very polite and has a friendly attitude. I am looking forward for my future cleanings with DR Shen.

My review concerns Dr. Michael Shen at the Mount Prospect location. This review should not be removed. I write this review with a very heavy heart. I was a patient of Dr. Michael Shen for 20 years. We go back to when he had an office in Highland Park, and his wife was his receptionist. She was always wonderful. I want to make this quick. I wanted my first review of Michael to be positive, but that is not the case. On February 17th, 2024, I went in for my crown, for which I had paid $1664. 10 a month in advance. The care that I received was, until then, very special, and although we had our ups and downs over the years, Michael was the only dentist that I trusted to care for my dental needs.

As I was about to leave, I had a question concerning my bite alignment and felt I was not getting a full answer. Michael stated that my "jaw was slightly different on one side. " I know this is a common physical occurrence in all of our bodies. People are not cast out of molds, so we are different all over our bodies. At no time did Michael Shen ever measure my jaw, so whether or not this is true is unknown. But that is irrelevant. Then, out of NOWHERE, Michael stated: "There is a study that says people with symmetrical faces are considered the most attractive" to paraphrase his words. His comment surprised me, and I told him flatly: "That is just an opinion and nothing more. " He repeated himself again twice! He was trying to justify his words. I thought, "Why is he being so rude and insensitive?" He did nothing to answer my questions about my concerns, and as I sat in the chair, I told him how disgusted and angry I was with his comments. He had nothing to say. I had made it clear that his comment had NOTHING to do with the situation of his dental work in my mouth and was simply inexcusable. This was clearly inappropriate and unprofessional and completely violated how dentists should treat their patients.

He had made this personal and ugly when he attacked my appearance. There was no reason for his despicable behavior. I left the office with my friend, who witnessed this entire event. I decided that I was no longer a patient of Michael Shen at that time. This was a very cruel act on his part and completely insensitive. Whether he was intentionally trying to hurt my feelings or was just completely and emotionally detached from reality, I cannot say. My appearance is as important to me as it is to all of us. We want to look our best and feel good about ourselves. No one should be told such a vile and terrible comment about some specious study that has no place in modern dentistry. Unfortunately, I give Dr. Michael Shen a ZERO star review and would not recommend his services. I will provide further details at a later date.

Don’t usually do reviews but it was very upsetting finding out that after 4 year of getting a root canal from this dentist, that it was not done properly. Now, I have to either get it redone (pay full amount) or get the tooth pulled out because of his lack of work ethic, since the root canal he did had flaws. After one month of getting the crown installed, called the office to inform of pain I was having on that same tooth, they were going to charge me to take a look plus any additional work to be done. It seemed unfair that I would have to pay more to take a look at something that was previously worked on. Dr.

Shen always rushed things and didn’t seem to put an effort to follow up on patients. Maybe if he would’ve not rushed things, he would have done the root canal right and would have acknowledged my pain that it was not something normal. Come to find out now that the crown itself did not have the correct fit and the root canal was not filled in correctly. Stopped attending this office mainly for that reason, lack of acknowledgment. Also, every time I went they would give me an estimated amount to pay that was much lower than what I ended up paying.

Would be much better to give a higher estimated amount and when time came to realize it would be that or less amount, not vice versa. If you want to save money in the long run, and would like to have dental work done correctly, avoid going to this facility. Very upsetting experience.

I went in for an oral exam and teeth cleaning on my first visit and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had at the dentist. Everyone there was super friendly and kind. Due to COVID, it had been while since I've had my teeth clean, but the girl who did it was so thorough and made sure she got every tooth. I really appreciated how she took her time.

During the oral exam, Dr. Shen showed genuine care about my teeth (even more than I would) and took the time to answer any questions/concerns I had while making sure I felt comfortable throughout the entire process. I highly recommend going here for all of your dental needs!
