About
Dr. Bonniwell initially achieved board certification and was recognized by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2005, then recertified in 2015. He is an active member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, 6th District Dental Society & Tompkins County Dental Society. Dr. Bonniwell earned his Bachelor of Science from the California State University, Chico and dental degree (D.M.D) from the University of Pennsylvania. He entered the U.S. Air Force and continued his education with a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at Langley Air Force Base, VA. He served as a general dentist for three years prior to his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. As an Air Force dental officer, Dr. Bonniwell was stationed in several countries and served as the Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at multiple bases. He spent three years on the teaching staff as the Oral Surgery Training Officer for the AEGD at Langley Air Force Base, VA and has received multiple medals and distinguished honors. After over 11 years of dedicated service and training, Dr. Bonniwell and his family moved to Ithaca where he opened his private practice. Outside of the office, Dr. Bonniwell enjoys spending time with his family and participating in several outdoor activities. He is an active member and former commodore of the Ithaca Yacht Club & can often be found on Cayuga Lake racing his J112e sailboat. When the lake is frozen, he and his family spend many of their evenings and weekends on the slopes at nearby Greek Peak. Dr. Bonniwell has vast experience in complex dental and surgical procedures. He feels very fortunate to make Ithaca his home and is proud to serve the health needs of the greater Finger Lakes community.
