I have had other root canal procedures over the decades from other providers, all excellent. I'm not sure if I am showing my age but I was surprised by the charges (Jan 2024). Root canal- premolar, $1525, additional charges: oral exam $150, Xray $65, pulp vitality tests $80, and cone beam CT $525. Dental insurance does not allow pulp test or CT scan so no insurance adjustments are made regarding these two charges. Total $2345 for the procedure only, not including the crown. I took off one star not because of the doctor, but because of the cost.

NSAID anti-inflammatory and pain Rx is contra-indicated for me on a 'blood thinner'. I re-iterated that at beginning: assistant wanted me to take acetaminophen but did not know dose when I asked (1000mg!). Then at conclusion Dr. Pawluk personally told me I HAD to take a large dose of ibuprofen (an NSAID) whether I had pain or not 3-4 times a day. I did not bother to correct him again but did not take the ibuprofen. Seemed rude in communication with his staff and communication with me was minimal. Should I need another future root canal I won't be making an appointment here.

The way he treated my daughter, who has severe dental anxiety, was disgusting. He was well aware and very rude. He told us to books the last appt of the day so he had more time and wouldn’t be rushed. Then when my daughter was struggling, he told he she had 30 seconds to calm down or she had to go somewhere else. Of course she couldn’t calm down after a grown man acted like that towards her. He stormed out of the room and said to go somewhere else! The most arrogant man I’ve ever met. truly disgusting how you’d treat a 10 year old with anxiety. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone!

My dentist referred me to Dr. Pawluk for a root canal. He got me in immediately and did the root canal quickly with minimal discomfort. The clean wave method is nice. He called me personally later that evening to see how I was doing. His staff did not do a great job explaining things to me. I thought I was just going for a root canal, and didn't realize there would be a consultation and that the root canal may have to be a separate appt. I was quoted about $400 out of pocket but I was actually out of pocket $1500. When I asked the assistant for clarification she seemed impatient and annoyed. The staff seemed to want to move very quickly; they should slow down and take the time to explain things to patients. We don't know the difference between "debridement" and "root canal." If someone's coming in, they're probably already anxious because root canals are anxiety-inducing. Just slow down and be kind and patient with folks. Dr. Pawluk himself was great though!

I consider myself a high tolerance and endurance of pain. The last 3 out of 5 visits to him testified that. On those occasions, in mid-stream drilling to fix my root, my body literally jump from my seat. Somehow the localized anesthetic wasn't enough and my natural body reacted to it. The straw that broke the camel's back was my most recent visit while waiting for the anesthetic to kick in, I rubbed my tongue on that tooth and noticed that I can still feel sensation which I bought to his attention. His answer was "I am not drilling your tongue" and proceeded ahead totally ignoring my feedback. Sure enough, my body jumped again mid-stream. No apologies, no explanation but he finally resorted to numb me further. What I saw was his ego kicking in, not just this time but it has been consistent throughout all of my visits, Dr Pawluk, if you're reading this. Just remember, we are humans. You and I make errors in our career, decisions, or relationship one time or another. But when we must do is at these times is to hang our ego at the door as we learned from each incident. Doesn't appear you want that and worst still, you showed no respect for your customer/patient. And when that happens, each of us must find the courage to walk away from any relationships (be it attorney to client, doctor to patient or manager to staff) if respect is no longer being served. Hopefully current and future patients know what you are dealing with and who you are walking into. All the best.

Drop your ego and show respect for your patient.

You and I make errors. But when you show no respect to your patient, there's no sense of any continuation of that relationship.

Was a good job. I would have liked an explanation of what was going on, like they were doing a canal now and then a filling.
