Dentist in Miller Place, NY
Dr. Charles Shemet is the best dentist I've ever had. I moved out of state five years ago, and I'm in agony because I have a tooth ache. The dr. here can't see me until later. This started on a Friday night; today is Monday. I miss Dr. Shemet. He would have fit me in. He's the best!!!!

Waited a LONG time, but maybe this helps someone. For the record, I have no desire to hurt Dr. Charlie's rep. But, this is not fair. I've always had teeth issues, also smoked for 15 years. Finally quit and started saving $ in 2015. By 2019 I had $ saved to fix my smile, as my ins only covers a denture. Went to Dr. C and felt like they he wanted to help. I asked what he'd recommend for my 4 front teeth, implants or bridge? He said bridge, that's what we did. I paid $4-5K upfront & made $275 payments bi-weekly. The big day when my bridge is installed, Dr. C hands me a floss-pick. That's when we realize the lab sealed the 4 teeth, left no room to floss. Didn't think anything of it. Also mentioned a gap I felt in back, he said I just had to get used to it. I left so excited, taking pics smiling for the first time in 15yrs. A week passes, still doesn't feel right, almost painful, slight movement, etc. EVERYTHING I ate got stuck. I couldn't floss, so picking food out was a 3-4x a day task. I'd travel with a water-pik, find a bathroom after eating or I'd have build up and bad breathe all day. If I ate a bagel w/seeds, they'd get stuck for DAYS before finally coming loose. Requested an immediate follow up, but I was told it's normal, I'm just not used to them.
But, it kept getting worse, to a point where I genuinely wanted to rip them out. I'd take a bite of something soft and feel like they were going to snap. Something wasn't right. . . 6 mon cleaning next, mentioned this all again. Dr. C now seems annoyed with me. Turns it into a joke, "Lenny, If you're this obsessive, don't ever get married!". Before I left that day, the sweet nurse doing my cleaning whispers "I'm sorry he isn't taking u serious, I see what you're saying, it would bother me too". I called a few weeks later about the same issues. He said "idk what you want me to say, we can do it all over but it's going to cost the same and be the same result". We never spoke again. I continued making payments for a while. Until my bridge finally cracked, eating a slice of pizza. In the EXACT spot I'd brought up so many times. It stayed in for a few weeks before finally, at work, sitting with a client that's signing papers, I cough and my teeth fall on to the table. That was a fun day. . . I spent the last 15yrs hiding my smile with my hand. After I got the bridge, it took months forcing to keep my hand down when smiling. That day at work, I will NEVER forget that feeling of needing to put my hand over my mouth, again.
That's when I stopped paying the last of the bill. They call, threatening collections. I explained Id spoke to a lawyer who said I could get some of the $ back, but I didn't want to. They're a family biz, good people. I just wanted to be normal, be able to smile like I paid for. But, I never heard from them again. I guess they calculated how much it was to fix VS how much I owed and went with the cheaper option - writing me off. I eventually see a new dentist, says a tooth under my bridge wasn't checked properly afterwards. Of course, it's the tooth exactly where the gap I kept complaining about was. That's why 1 of my teeth was attached to the bridge when it came out (pic included). I'm told my bridge is now garbage, to get my 4 front teeth extracted for a denture (since I can't afford a new bridge/implants). The entire point of saving for 5 YEARS was to avoid dentures, now it seems to be my only option. I'm 37, fwiw. It's been 2 yrs now of my teeth falling out 2-3x a day when the denture glue wears off. Left my awesome sales job to work in a place where I'm by myself so I can leave my teeth out and be alone. I've gone to 3 dentists, who cement it back in. But, when I go back after it falls out, they say "I won't do it again, u need to get this fixed properly". AKA denture. This is my life now. The cement from my last appt has worn off and now I need to find a new dentist to put it back, again, before I see family for the holidays. I leave this as a warning. If u get work done and something doesn't feel right, get a 2nd opinion!

Dr. C Shemet is great. Friendly and professional. I was so nervous about my wisdom tooth extraction, but it was an amazing procedure, no pain at all. Thank you! I am definitely be coming back for future dental work.

Dr. Shemet's office has always been fantastic to me and my family. Charlie and Lea have always taken great care with my teeth and are always clear and realistic about the best ways to proceed when intervention is needed for cavities or otherwise. I recently was experiencing immense pain from one of my molars that hade experienced issues in the past. The pain was a solid 12/10!! I called Charlie's number on Christmas Eve and he told me that he didn't want me to suffer in pain over the holiday and took me in right away at 7am Christmas morning. I can't think of many professionals that would do such an amazing thing.
He really saved me this week, and although no one wants a root canal, I am now pain free and in the process of saving my tooth. I have to say that if you are looking for a very comfortable atmosphere where you are treated like family, then this is the office for you to visit. Thank you for everything, Shemet D. D. S. !
