I have been a patient at this dental office for a couple of years. The hygienist, Johanna Garcia, was always excellent, and I mainly returned because of the quality of her cleanings. Previously, I had a terrible experience when they canceled my appointments more than three times in a row due to dentists being on vacation, having emergencies, or attending jury duty. After that, I didn’t go back for over a year. They had placed a crown that felt wrong from day one. The crown emitted a foul smell, which I tried to manage by using a water flosser daily, but the odor persisted. I complained for two years and was charged every time they checked it—only to be told “it is what it is. ” The crown finally fell off last week, and I made an appointment to have it re-cemented. To my surprise, once it was put back, the smell was gone—clearly showing the crown was not properly sealed in the first place. It had a filtration issue that could’ve led to infection or decay in the nearby teeth. After the appointment, the old lady at the front desk tried to charge me $44 for the fix.

I explained that my dental insurance was transitioning to a new provider. After checking, we found that my previous insurance had ended on June 30. I hadn’t received my new insurance card yet, but I was informed the new carrier would automatically handle the billing. She immediately snapped: “You cannot come to a dental appointment without telling us you have no insurance!” I replied, “But I do have insurance. ” She said, “Well, according to this, you don’t, and I’ll have to bill you a lot of money. ” I told her to go ahead and send me the bill—I would dispute it with my insurance. Instead of helping, she began arguing and embarrassing me in front of the other patients. I have zero patience for people who speak to me disrespectfully, and I was about to walk out when the dentist stepped in and deescalated the situation. Eventually, the front desk worker figured out how to verify my new insurance, and I ended up paying $37 for the visit. She could have started by trying to help me figure it out from the beginning instead of being condescending and humiliating me. Stupid me—I made an appointment for a check-up and cleaning two days later.

I arrived 15 minutes early for my 11:00 AM appointment. By 11:35 AM, I was still waiting, so I asked the front desk if they would see me if I showed up 35 minutes late. She didn’t answer. She went to the back, came out, and said, “Sorry, the hygienist can’t see you until the doctor is available. ” I asked again, “If I came in 40 minutes late, would you still see me?” Again—no answer. I explained that respect goes both ways. I understand things can happen, but at the very least, the patient should be informed about delays. Out of courtesy, you should be told and given the option to reschedule. I waited five more minutes and left. They can rest assured: I will never return.
