Refuses you service if you price compare with other dentists, even for dental emergencies! I saw them once before two years ago on a dental emergency. They took care of the issue in maybe 5-10 minutes flat, and everything was good. That was not the experience this time. I called two days ago to get just a regular dental cleaning, and asked for pricing. They told me they couldn't really say, but at the minimum, it would be $354. I scheduled the appointment. Right after, I spoke with Redhawk dental care, who gave me a set price of $254. So I made an appointment with them, then called Gentle Family Dentists and canceled my appointment.
They asked why, and I told them it came down to price. Today, I called due to a gum infection. The same issue I had two years ago that they helped with. So I called them, asked what the price would be. After, I called Redhawk to compare price, and it turns out Redhawk doesn't do that type of treatment. So I call Gentle Family Dentists to get scheduled, and the clinic administrator tells me they are refusing me as a patient from here on out. I asked why, and she (the clinic administrator, Sally) kept trying to put the blame on me, saying, "It sounds like we won't be able to meet your expectations. " I asked what she was talking about- that I haven't complained at all, so where is this coming from? She said "All the back and forth calls.
" I told her I called twice two days ago, and twice today, because I was comparing price with a different dentist (a normal thing to do), and that my fourth call altogether was to schedule with them. She then said they are refusing me care, even though I will be paying out of pocket, and they are aware it's a dental emergency, because I: 1. Don't see them every six months for cleanings, 2. I called and price compared. They couldn't care less that I was having a gum infection that needed treated, and that they were fully capable of helping. What happened to the Oath dentists make? This is a messed up clinic. I don't recommend going through them.

I have been going to Gentle Family Dentists since 2022. Historically my trips to the dentist have not gone well. I had very bad experiences as a child when I went to the dentist and it followed me into adulthood. It kept me away from getting regular check-ups and taking care of decaying teeth. I would often feel judged by the dentist and a bit ridiculed for not acting faster. Not to mention the cost of care. I have had nothing but positive experiences at Gentle Family Dentist.
They (the entire team) have always treated me with respect, have been "gentle" and no longer fear going to the dentist. In fact, I now look forward to it. I'm confident you will experience the same treatment. They have a relaxation room that offers a massage chair, relaxing music and serenity. I like that they give you the option of using Nitrous Oxide if you want it. A1 from beginning to end.

We were visiting from out of town and couldn’t get in to see our regular dentist before the trip. Since we were in the area to meet our newborn grandson, we reached out to Gentle Family dentistry and were able to get an appointment right away — which, in hindsight, should have been the first red flag. Shortly after booking, the office called to say that two hours of appointments had cleared before ours. While I appreciated the update, losing 2 hours of appointments before hours should have been another red flag. They knew we weren’t going to be long-term patients but still gave us a full tour of the office — a gesture that felt more like a sales pitch than a service orientation. We went along with it, but it didn’t inspire confidence. We were there for a simple cleaning. Instead, we were told that x-rays were mandatory, 4 different kinds — at a cost of $256 before the cleaning. When we questioned this, we were given several conflicting reasons: • “It’s our policy. ” • “We could lose our license. ” • “We need x-rays to determine which cleaning to use. ” As someone with 30+ years of experience working in and around the dental field, I can say confidently: these are not valid reasons.
This felt more like a forced upsell than a medical necessity. One of us proceeded — reluctantly — and received a 15-minute cleaning that cost about $360 when combined with the x-rays. It was the least thorough dental cleaning we’ve ever experienced. By contrast, our regular cleanings back home (St. Croix Family Dentistry in WI) take around 45 minutes and leave you feeling well cared for. We canceled the second appointment. The refund process was unnecessarily difficult. The manager or owner never addressed the issue directly, instead leaving a newer staff member to handle everything — including calling repeatedly for help that never showed up in person. That’s not just poor customer service; it’s poor leadership. As a business owner myself, I’ve dealt with unhappy customers. I’ve found that doing the right thing — listening, showing compassion, and correcting course — often turns critics into lifelong advocates. But that only works when the customer’s needs come first.
Customers aren't "always right", but that adage is meant to remind you to make them feel that way. What should have happened: Two new patients walked in, willing to pay a fair price for a cleaning. Instead of providing clear pricing and quality care, we were hit with rigid policies, surprise fees, and a rushed experience. What we got: • ~$360 for a single, brief, low-effort cleaning What we expected: • ~$100–$200 each for honest, thorough service Based on other reviews, I expect the office may respond to this publicly with something along the lines of “this is our policy, and we stand by it. ” That seems to be their standard reply — no reflection, no ownership, just justification. If they do respond that way, please read it with this in mind: this is exactly the kind of rigid, transactional thinking that led me to write this review in the first place. If the business would prefer to have a real conversation about improving their customer experience, I’d be happy to share more. But if they choose to defend poor service instead, that too will speak volumes. I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews. But this experience went beyond simple miscommunication — it felt exploitative. And I felt compelled to warn others before they find themselves in a similar situation.
