The admin staff at this dental office are extremely hard to work with. Set up the initial appointment (Summer 2023) and was basically belittled over the phone by the person setting up the appointment because I didn't have any answers to the questions they were asking. Ended up getting an appointment which went fine, the hygienist and doctor were great during my appointment and answered all of my questions. Received the bill in the mail 4 days after the due date, called to ask why it was sent so late and why a previous address was used instead of the one on file.

The lady on the phone had no idea how my previous address was used to send the bill instead of the address on file. Upon further inspection of the bill, the house number was mistyped and I got blamed for mistyping the address. Promptly cancelled my next appointment. I should have known that this place was going to be a throne in my side when I set up the first appointment.

Be aware of the treatment you might receive from the admin staff at this business. If they start speaking down on you, do yourself a favor and find another dental office.

Front desk staff was very friendly and happy. Dr. Hunter and assistant were comforting and explained the procedures as we went along the process of getting a crown. I’m not fond of going to the dentist anyway, but Dr. Hunter and staff made it more comfortable being there. Thank you Elk Plaza Dental!

Quick note on this dentist. My daughter had some fillings done there and they were the exact same type as the fillings I had done at a different dentist. My daughter’s fillings ended up costing twice what my dentist charges. Further, the mn provider tax they tack onto every bill is actually the 1. 8% Medicare tax they are required to pay on the income they earn. So if you are their patient you’ll pay Medicare tax on your income and theirs. How fun! Though legally they can now pass this fee onto patients (as of January 1) most don’t.

This dentist calculates the tax based on the fictional amount they bill insurance before the negotiated rate (not on what is actually charged) they hiked up the filling cost to $1100 for two fillings and charged us the 1. 8% interest on that amount instead of 1. 8 on the negotiated rate of $189 per filling. I was also informed they cannot provide estimates of what you will owe. You just have to wait until you get a bill.

I’ve been going here for years. I’ve been to many dentists in the past and now in my 60s have to say that Dr. Hunter and his crew by far have made me confident and happy to keep going there, even though now I live 40 miles away😊
