I’m really saddened to come here amid the same good reviews I used to make my decision in dentists to leave a one-star review. I’m a positive person and I usually see the absolute best in people but my visit really disturbed me and I couldn’t deny it—it hasn’t left my mind. I could write a book on the experiences that made me uncomfortable as a POC in I believe at the time an all non-poc space but I’ll try to keep it short. 1) the assistant I had was really snappy within me and I was shocked by the unprofessional demeanor. Context: some other staff member had been in the room and they were talking so naturally I was a bit zoned out because the convo had nothing to do with me, but I suppose at some point she had gone back to talking to me and she said “are you even listening to me” in such a snappy and annoyed tone like a teacher scolding a “trouble kid. ” I was really thrown off and tried to explain myself and apologize and she rolled her eyes at me—I HATE confrontation and I’m really socially awkward and my anxiety went so high I just feel that’s not how you should approach a patient who didn’t hear you.

2) weird/off comments about my hair and shoes —hard to describe why exactly it was weird but it was one of those things that others might understand a gut feeling in your stomach that something is said weirdly and makes you feel kinda bad in your stomach you know? 3) I had to ask how my teeth were after cleaning because no one said anything. Like do I have cavities? Any advice to do better? What did you notice? Not a lot of transparency when you have to dig for the answers yourself. 4) there was a suggestion for me for something somewhat optional but highly encouraged but mind you my former dentist team (great team!) has never once mentioned this and I saw them super recently so that’s interesting but it was pushed so strongly and on my forms I had marked that I THINK I do what’s related to the thing suggested to me that stops that, same with another optional thing I said I had some interest in, and suddenly I need those things…? It could be coincidental and I’m definitely not trying to say it couldn’t be true but I’m moreso commenting on how it just felt weird to me. Good things about place: location is great for me very close to home, the interior is nice, and there was one person who was sweet enough to me to make me not cry because believe me I was so overstimulated by these weird experiences I was on the breaking point. The dentist herself I did think was smart and funny so that was a nice relief after dealing with bad experiences there—-though I did not get seen after but maybe that’s not standard practice but it was what I expected based off my prior experiences so take this part with a grain of salt. Again I’m really sad having to write this but it felt wrong not to let others know.

I truly hope if you do go that your experience is like the ones I read. Maybe it was just a bad day at the office so to speak that day—I don’t know but I do know how it made me feel. I have told my experience as it was it is not my goal to lie, and it feels bad writing this stuff but it’s just what happened. It’s so sad because the place I go to where my childhood home is never made me feel like that.
